Our Story
Uprooted Kitchen & Catering Co. flourished under the former name of Basket Case Picnics & Catering, operating across the Okanagan since July of 2011. In the early years we could be found firmly planted at 5 Farmers Markets per week with our distinctive mobile kitchen. The markets provided a natural platform for doing business with both producers and customers appreciative of our commitment to use as many local, organic, and hormone/antibiotic free products as possible in our creative, fresh and colorful cuisine! When not attending markets we collaborated with estate wineries that did not have on-site food services, providing a partnership approach that was designed to enrich both the winery and client experience, by providing gourmet picnics and fresh stone-fired flatbreads. We have continually developed our own flair and bespoke service styles that relate with authenticity to our wine-country and agricultural region, and which highlight the rustic elegance of our earthy creations.
Relaunched in May of 2019, our new name, Uprooted Kitchen & Catering Co., speaks to both our inspiration and ethos. As an on the grow and go caterer, with menus that are, quite literally, cultivated from the ground up, we decided to rebrand and ‘uproot’ our image to better suit how our business has evolved! Uprooted Kitchen & Catering Co. is also the chosen Culinary Service Partner of Okanagan College, Vernon Campus, where we operate the Kal View Espresso Bar/Cafe’ and where our year round commercial kitchen is based. Here too, students minds are nourished on a steady diet of fresh wholesome foods, with pricing concessions offered by our catering company. The public is also welcome from September through April, and The Kal View Room is catered to exclusively by Uprooted Kitchen & Catering Co. It is available to rent with its stunning lake and mountain views, as a highly adaptable venue for weddings and events with seating for up to 150 people.

Our Professional Service Management team, spearheaded by her Mom, Chris Rowland and Culinary Service Coordinator, Leann Gillich boast over 50 years experience creating bespoke events.
